Is Pooled free to use?
Yes. Pooled is in early access and every feature works for everybody. Make an account while early access is open and you also get 6 months of Pro and a permanent OG badge. There is no price, no trial and nothing to cancel. The app has no billing connected to it, so it could not charge you if it wanted to.
Do I need to connect a bank?
No. Pooled never asks for bank logins and has no connection to any bank. You add each expense by hand in a few taps, so setup takes a minute and your accounts stay untouched.
Where is my data stored?
On your phone, encrypted, and that is the only copy unless you make an account. With no account, nothing you record ever leaves the device. The app does make one small check with Google when it opens, to confirm your version is still supported; it carries nothing about you or your money. With an account, Google also runs the sign-in and the cloud copy, and it is still the only company involved.
What happens if I make an account?
Signing in uploads the ledger you already had — entries, wallets, categories, budgets, lists, money lent and borrowed, and receipt photos — and keeps it in sync from then on. There is no partial sync. The cloud copy is protected by Google's security rather than encrypted by us, so it is not end-to-end encrypted, and a page that said otherwise would be lying to you.
How do shared spaces work?
A shared space is a group for money you handle together, like a flat or a trip. Invite people with a six-character code, and every entry anyone adds updates the balances the whole group can see.
How are the balances worked out?
A member's balance is the payments recorded to them, less the payments they made back, less what they spent from the space. Nothing is stored as a running total — every figure is recalculated from the entries, so it can always be traced back to the records that produced it.
Does Pooled split a bill between people?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. An entry belongs to one person. Pooled tracks what each member put in, took out and spent, and shows you where everyone stands — it does not divide a restaurant bill into shares for you. The keypad has a calculator in it if you want to do the division yourself.
Can I set budgets for my categories?
Give any category a monthly limit and Pooled counts down as you add entries. A progress bar in the app and the home-screen widget both show how much is left, and flag it once you go over.
Can I track money I lent or borrowed?
Yes. Record what you lent or borrowed and who it involves, then log part repayments as they come in until the balance reaches zero. These records stay out of your income and expense totals, so a debt between friends never skews your spending.
Can I export to CSV and PDF?
Export any date range as a CSV for your spreadsheet, or a PDF listing your entries with category and payment-method breakdowns. Both open your phone's share sheet, so you choose where the file goes; nothing is uploaded by Pooled.
How do I lock the app?
Open App lock from the ☰ menu and set a PIN or a password; your fingerprint can unlock it too. Pooled asks for it when you come back to the app, so balances stay hidden on a phone other people pick up.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting your account erases what is held in the cloud, and there is an option in the app to wipe the device. Two honest caveats: entries you added to a shared space stay, because the other members' ledgers still have to add up, and a single deleted entry is marked deleted rather than removed outright. The privacy policy spells out exactly what goes and what stays.
